InstructionsCombine brown sugar and allspice. Wash and slice apples. Cook until soft (about 10 minutes) in as little water as possible, stirring from time to time. Put through a food mill. Season with sugar, lemon juice, rind, and cinnamon. Grease a fireproof serving dish with butter. Cut bananas in halves crosswise, then lengthwise, and arrange in the dish. Sprinkle with the brown sugar-allspice mixture. Spread with applesauce, pour on rum and water. Dot with butter. Bake in a preheated 375° oven for 20 minutes. Serve with whipped cream flavored with 1 tablespoon brown sugar, a pinch of allspice, 1 teaspoon rum, or with fruit sauce. |
