Chocolate Chip Cookies

1cupall-purpose flour (plus 2 tablespoons - sifted)
1⁄2teaspoonbaking soda
1⁄2cupgranulated sugar
1⁄4cuplight-brown sugar (firmly packed)
1 egg
1teaspoonvanilla extract
1⁄2cupbutter or margarine (softened)
1⁄2cupwalnuts or pecans (coarsely chopped)
6ouncesemisweet chocolate pieces


Heat oven to 375F.

Into large bowl, sift flour with baking soda and salt.

Add sugars, egg, vanilla, and butter. With wooden spoon, or portable electric mixer at medium speed, beat until smooth and well combined - about 1 minute.

Stir in nuts and chocolate pieces. Drop by teaspoonfuls, 2 inches apart, onto ungreased cookie sheets.

Bake 10 to 12 minutes, or until golden. Remove to wire rack; cool.
