2 eggs
2cupflour (sifted)
2teaspooncream of tartar
1teaspoonbaking soda
1teaspoonground cinnamon (for tops)
2tablespoongranulated sugar (for tops)


Beat 2 cups sugar and shortening until light and fluffy. Beat in eggs to mix thoroughly.

Sift together flour, cream of tartar, baking soda and salt. Stir into creamed mixture. On lightly floured waxed paper, form dough into four rolls, each about 12 inches long and 1 to 1-1/4 inches in diameter. Cut in 1 inch slices. Dip tops of cookies in mixture of cinnamon and 2 tablespoons sugar. Place 3 inches apart, cinnamon-sugar sides up, on greased baking sheet. Bake in moderate oven (375F) about 12 minutes. Let stand on baking sheet 1 minute before removing to cooling racks.
