Sweet Cider Sauce for Desserts

2cupapple cider
3 allspice berries (bruised)
1 cinnamon stick (1-inch piece)
  freshly grated nutmeg


Stir cornstarch and 1/4 cup of the cider in small bowl until smooth. Heat remaining cider in small noncorrosive saucepan. Stir in cornstarch mixture, allspice, cinnamon, salt and nutmeg to taste. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until sauce thickens and turns translucent, about 3 minutes. Strain through wire-mesh sieve. Serve warm.
